The items below can easily keep you in the positive, go forward plan to stay on track and find that new role.

You’re out of work, you are home and you have more time – all true, weather you are supporting a family, a single person, and every combination in between, you are stressed, especially if you need a job to keep your current life style.  All this time is going to start to work against you unless you gain control over it and understand it exists as your new reality.  As days turn into weeks and weeks into months, time continues to pass by, your stress will build and build and may actually start to harm your mental health and affect others around you.  The job search is going to take its toll, especially if your job search seems to be going nowhere and rejections and dead ends keep piling up.

So before this starts to creep up on you I am glad you found this post and read on.

Steps I took to stay on target and stay well balanced:

Take a strong look at yourself and determine exactly what you have accomplished in your personal life.  In most cases if you are like me there is a great list of accomplishments, but there are also some areas that need more work, Write this down.

Keep your personal relationships strong, do not introvert into yourself, this is certainly easy to do being all the stress you re currently under.  Be sure to call that friend or trusted partner you have once a week to discuss your progress.  Spend time with your significant other undistracted.  Spend more time with the kids and pets as whatever fits to your situation.

Be sure you get the proper meals, exercise and sleep – these are obvious, but very important.

Give yourself limits and set alarms to remind you.  Determine what you are going to do each day and be sure to complete it.  Don’t keep busy by just finding busy work – you all know what I mean here!

Have fun for yourself – and while some of the items listed above do also provide fun, make this fun personal.  Read a book; catch up on your movies or whatever is a personal experience for you!

Be kind to yourself, you are your most valued advocate, you have achieved a lot in your life, remember that!  Some people can feel embarrassed or ashamed they are out of work and start down the path of self-doubt, keep this in mind and be sure to recognize it. Your energy will build, your confidence will start busting at the seams and you will conquer the world.

I have a few sayings I like to write down and have greet me in the mornings when I get started, I either post these to a white board I have, or write them down on a sticky note – the one I am using now is “Do Something Today That Matters”

Gook Luck!
